Serie A: Inter Milan Extend Lead at the Top

·2 min read

Inter Milan extended their lead at the top of Serie A to seven points after a commanding 3-0 victory over AC Milan in the Derby della Madonnina. The result underlined the Nerazzurri's dominance of Italian football this season.

Lautaro Martinez opened the scoring in the 18th minute with a clinical finish after brilliant build-up play, before Marcus Thuram doubled the lead just before half-time. Nicolo Barella completed the rout with a stunning long-range strike in the second half.

The derby victory was Inter's 20th league win of the season, and they remain unbeaten in Serie A. Their defensive record is the best in Europe's top five leagues, conceding just 14 goals in 26 matches.

Manager Simone Inzaghi has built a team that combines defensive solidity with devastating attacking power. The partnership between Martinez and Thuram has been one of the most prolific in European football, with the pair contributing 35 goals between them.

"Winning the derby is always special," said Inzaghi. "But winning it in this manner, with such a complete performance, makes it even more satisfying. The players were magnificent from start to finish."

With the Scudetto looking increasingly likely, Inter's focus is now turning to the Champions League, where they face PSG in the quarter-finals.
